Learning to Fly

Dedicated to all the news coverage about the TSA and the "enhanced patdown".

As the video highlights, passengers have more to worry about the ground crews and the unscreened luggage in the cargo hold, than they do about some "terrorist" with a bomb in his pants.

Unfortunately, the US has put all its money into air and road transit, neglecting rail. That is a shame since rail transit is far more efficient than air or personal automobiles. Since rail is direct from city centre to city centre (as opposed to air which is outside of town), it can end up taking about the same to travel short distances even with the low speed trains on the US's eastern corridor.

Another point, the US basically gave the terrorists a victory after 9-11 by ceasing air traffic for a week. The ridiculous security measures have acted as a disincentive for air travel as well.

Of course, the US refuses to work on the passenger rail system. It also wants to dismantle Amtrak.

Shame.
